HISTORY AND CULTURE
On the Costa Dorada you will discover architectural constructions from different eras of our history, as well as the last vestiges of cultures of which we only have left their mark as a witness of their existence. The prehistoric caves of the Espluga de Francolí are a good example of this, as well as the Iberian remains of Calafell.
In the Tarragonès the Romans left us as a heritage part of their culture in the form of architectural remains such as the Pont del Diable (Devil’s Bridge), the Arco de Berà, the Roman villa of Centelles, the Roman villa dels Munts and the old town of Tarragona. The last, baptized as Tarraco by the Romans, was chosen by them to locate the capital of Hispania Citerior. The ancient Tarraco has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and you will find constructions such as the old wall or the forum.
The Middle Ages also left their mark on the Costa Dorada: witnesses of this legacy are the already named Ruta del Císter or the medieval city of Montblanc, in which you can not miss its alleys and its historical re-enactments that will transport you to another era.
From our most recent history, the Route of the Geniuses (Ruta dels Genis) is essential, which includes the modernist architectural works of Gaudí in Reus, by Joan Miró in Montroig and the house-museum of the musician Pau Casals in El Vendrell.
The natural environment of the Costa Dorada allows us to enjoy it in many possible ways. We can practice outdoor sports, make bicycle routes along the beach promenades of Cambrils and Miami Playa, hiking through the mountains of Prades, swim in the wetlands…
We recommend you visit the Natural Park of National Interest of Poblet and the Natural Park of Montsant, where you will find the Cartuja de Escaladei (twelfth century), the first that was built on the Peninsula. The therapeutic waters of Coma-Ruga and the Roads of Ronda del Baix Penedès are also a must, from which we can enjoy beaches and places inaccessible to traffic.
The offer is wide and for all tastes. Whichever way you choose to get to know it, we assure you that you will find bucolic landscapes of mountains, vineyards and crystalline beaches.

The Costa Dorada has a climate and an ideal land for vineyard management, this has favored the culture of wine and, at present, we have five Designations of Origin.
In the Priorat, the Sierra de Montsant, the Camp de Tarragona, the Penedès and the Conca de Barberà offer great landscapes of vineyards, and each area cultivates vineyards according to their own tradition .
The Rocafort de Queralt, Barberà de la Conca and Montblanc wine cathedrals, among others, are a must. These are modernist architecture temples destined to agricultural cooperatives and warehouses, in its majority work of the architect Cèsar Martinell.
